Superhero Tea-Party

For JoPe and others who wanted to hear my song, "Superhero Tea-Party," here is my YouTube debut:

<lj-embed id="1" />

I got a new camera yesterday as a belated birthday present from my husband, my brother and my brother's girlfriend. I'm giddy. I have to remember what it was like in the early days of html: all of those webpages with spinning icons quickly drove everyone bezoomny. But how could the web designers resist? Over time, they calmed down and began to make web-pages that actually looked good. I'll probably end up shooting a lot of video just to test things out and see what works. However, I'll refrain from posting anything more until the offerings are more polished.

Kidfest wrap-up

I had a good gig at Kidfest yesterday. Here is a link to some photos from the show at my Seattle storyteller homepage.

Kidfest '07

On Sunday, October 14 at 12 noon, I will present two storytimes geared for preschoolers and toddlers at Kidfest, the three day arts festival of the Seattle Children's Museum. Friday, October 12 focuses on the theatrical arts, Saturday, October 13 focuses on music, and Sunday, October 14 is storytelling day. The event costs $7.50, which is the general admission fee to the Children's Museum.

My plan is to present two different storytimes with a short break in-between so that caregivers and children could stay for one show or both, depending upon everyone's moods. Since my storytimes are right around the lunch hour, I recommend late morning snacks for everyone involved.

Here is the address for the Children's Museum:
305 Harrison St
Seattle, WA 98109
Telephone: (206) 441-1768

The Children's Museum is located in the Seattle Center, underneath the main food court and a short walk from the Seattle Children's Theatre and the Pacific Science Center. If you take the bus to Seattle Center, keep in mind that you're dealing with a Sunday schedule. If you come by car, plan to pay to park in the garage but congratulate yourself if you find free street parking.

This is my first Seattle storytelling festival, and I'm delighted that it will be easily accessible to everyone-- or at least, those of you who will be in the Seattle area in mid-October. The rest of you may have to wait until I can make a storytelling video for you.

Pajama Storytime

On Thursday, July 12, at 7 pm, I'm performing songs and telling stories at Island Books in Mercer Island, Washington. It's a pajama storytime, so yeah, you can come in your pjs. I've never actually seen anyone over the age of two show up in pjs. I have my secret bets as to which grown-ups friends of mine would do so. Ahem.

Fuse #8 has an article in the Horn Book on Blogging the Kidlitosphere. She also made a list of Kid-lit Bloggers to Watch. Check it out. I'm on the list:

Saints and Spinners — Identified only as “Alkelda the Gleeful,” this librarian has a musical bent with many postings on songs, both in the library and out.

As a child, I would write stories, draw covers for them (stapled to the pages) and write pretend-blurbs on the back. Horn Book was one of the review journals listed and they always gave me great reviews for titles such as Face to Face With Death and Murder in the Mansion. I love The Horn Book: the reviews, the letters, the articles-- all of it. Check your public library for current and back issues of this periodical.

I've got a big head now.
